Privacy policy

Last updated: 3 October 2026

This website, danieldalen.com, is run by Daniel Dalen ("I", "me"). This page explains what data the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. Questions or requests: contact@danieldalen.com.

Newsletter sign-up

When you enter your email address, it is stored with Kit (kit.com), the service I use to send my newsletter. I use it only to send you my writing and updates. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask me to delete your address at any time. Legal basis: your consent.

Location and time of day

To greet you ("Good morning, friend from Tokyo"), my hosting provider, Vercel, estimates your city and country from your IP address, and your browser provides your local time. This is used only to show the greeting and choose a light or dark design. It is not stored or linked to you.

Analytics and advertising cookies

The site uses Meta Pixel and Google Tag Manager to measure visits, sign-ups and link clicks, and to show and measure ads on Meta's platforms. These tools set cookies and receive information such as the pages you visit, your IP address and browser details. When you sign up, a hashed (scrambled) version of your email address may also be sent to Meta so the sign-up can be matched to an ad. Meta and Google process this data under their own privacy policies.

These tools load when you visit the site. You can block or delete their cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of ad personalisation in your Meta ad preferences. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in understanding and growing my audience.

How long data is kept

Your email address is kept until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. Analytics and advertising data is kept according to Meta's and Google's retention settings.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask to see, correct, export or delete the data I hold about you, and object to or withdraw consent for its use. Email me at the address above. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will be updated.
